Chatham Park YMCA Grand Opening

On a bright and breezy day, local officials, business professionals and community members gathered to get a first look at Chatham Park’s newest amenity, the Chatham Park YMCA.

A Cause for Celebration

The March 12th grand opening celebration featured speeches from local dignitaries, tours of the facility, a celebratory lunch and giveaways. The event was a fitting introduction for the 36,000-square-foot facility, which is just a 3.4-mile drive from MOSAIC.

“YMCA is where families come together to grow in spirit, mind and body,” Bruce Ham, CEO, YMCA of the Triangle, told attendees. At the time of the event, the new Chatham Park YMCA already had 3,000 members.

Karen Howard, chair of Chatham County Board of Commissioners, praised Chatham Park and the YMCA for “building a community of support and opportunity and investing in the county.” She’s already signed up for a membership to the facility, which she described as “an asset for all of Chatham County.”

State-of-the-Art Facility

The Chatham Park YMCA, which opened to the public on March 15 in the new NoVi neighborhood, features two outdoor pools, a fitness area, studio classrooms, locker rooms and a kids’ play area. The state-of-the-art facility sits on a 24.8-acre campus and represents a $30 million investment.

Chatham Park Developers Bubba Rawl and Tim Smith of Preston Development Company were instrumental in bringing the YMCA to the area.

“Bubba and Tim are why we are standing here today,” said Hamm. “This is the fourth YMCA they have been instrumental in launching—their generosity has touched a quarter of a million members.”

Rawl concluded the speeches, noting “the YMCA is the epitome of goodness” and applauded what the organization does for communities. Town of Pittsboro Assistant Town Manager Kent Jackson agrees.

Building Community

“The YMCA aligns with the township’s vision to build community and to create spaces for memorable experiences.”

YMCA emphasizes wellness for the communities it serves and engages youth through after-school programs, summer camps, family activities and other programming. To join or to learn more about its programs, visit Chatham Park YMCA.
